CHROMATIC ABERRATIONS

“I design my paintings the way a dj makes music. They take samples of classical music, reggae, other djs, jazz or blues in order to construct new compositions. Similarly I take samples from visual sources, historic paintings, other artists, my own photographs, whatever and create a collage based on a theme that I’m interested in.”

“My paintings take years to complete. It’s a long but priceless process where I’m generally working on about 4 or 5 paintings at a time, each one at a different stage of completion. I also paint using a technique called “veladura”, meaning that I paint dozens of thin transparent layers of oil paint which allows light to bounce in between these layers creating a glowing and translucent quality. This takes a ridiculous amount of time and can’t be captured by a photo. The effect can only be appreciated in its entirety when standing in front of it.”
